Bokeh is beautiful.

The term comes from the Japanese word meaning ‘blur’; interestingly, it can be applied to visual and mental blur (like we’d say ‘haze’).

While we were in Japan last year I took many bokeh photos. In hindsight, they reflect the way I felt at the time; a bit overwhelmed, a bit lost, a bit out of touch with the details, but very much enjoying myself.

Here are the best ones:

In April 2013 I went to Birchip, Victoria. A very good friend’s family has a farm there. The landscape is humbling; such space, beautiful slow decay, a keen sense of the life cycle.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, plays were seen, macaroons were had and it was raining. Normal, really.

Here are the up to date instapics, as a comparison.

Why is this image so popular?

Why is this image so popular?

I have a Pinterest account and I love it.
It feeds the need for new visual stimuli and makes me feel like I’ve got a line of sight to parts of the design world I don’t usually have visibility into.

This is my Pinterest presence.

I don’t collect DIY projects, wedding ideas or homemakers tips; I think all of those represent the worst Pinterest has to offer.
What I do collect are interesting images…

In March 2013 I took a trip to Darwin in the Northern Territory. The colours made a big impression; vibrant yellow, red and white in the rocks at the beach, vivid greens in the foliage and blues in the sky.

Back in Melbourne, I attended at DIA event at a lighting showroom in Richmond; beautiful lights in many forms and colours. It was inspiring.

And of course the many bits and pieces in between: Creative Mornings Melbourne, live flamenco, macro maps, thrift shops and butt prints. Of course.
